Memphis Redbirds News Release

METAIRIE, La. - The Zephyrs were able to avoid the four-game sweep at the hands of the Redbirds, taking the series finale from Memphis on Thursday 8-5.

After the Zephyrs gained a one run advantage in the bottom of the first, the Redbirds answered back in the second inning. Dean Anna, who has now hit safely in 10 of his last 11, drove home Jacob Wilson to even the contest at

1-1. Nick Martini then tripled home Anna, giving Memphis the 2-1 advantage.

The clubs would trade runs in the fourth inning, with Dean Anna again singling home Jacob Wilson for the Redbirds, registering his second RBI of the contest.

Memphis added another run in the fifth with Xavier Scruggs driving home pitcher Joey Donofrio, who reached base on his first professional hit in his first career at bat.

The Zephyrs were able to add two runs in the bottom of the sixth to even the ballgame at 4-4.

Redbirds starter John Gast only lasted three 2/3 innings on Thursday, allowing a career-high seven walks. Despite the bases on balls, the left-hander surrendered just two runs on four hits. Gast did not factor into the decision.

In his second rehab appearance from the St. Louis Cardinals, New Orleans was able to plate a run off right-hander Mitch Harris in the seventh.

Two more Zephyr runs plated off reliever Keith Butler would be enough to snap their seven-game losing streak and avoid a sweep at the hands of the Redbirds.

Nick Martini added his first Triple-A home run in the ninth, but it was not enough to overcome the New Orleans lead.

The Redbirds return home to AutoZone Park Friday to kick-off an eight-game homestand, starting with welcoming the Iowa Cubs to Memphis. Tyler Lyons (6-5, 3.33) gets the start for the Redbirds, and will be opposed by the Cubs' Carlos Pimentel (7-5, 3.14). First pitch from AutoZone Park is scheduled for 7:05pm.
