Fresno Grizzlies News Release

FRESNO, Calif. - Joe Sclafani hadn't seen the batters box in two days, but he led the offensive charge for the first-place Fresno Grizzlies (57-41) as they defeated the Las Vegas 51s (56-42) by a score of 12-4 at Cashman Field on Wednesday night. The Dartmouth grad extended his hitting streak to eight games by going 3-5 with a triple and a season-best four RBI, which were his most in a game since August 9, 2014 vs. Iowa.

The game was broken open in a four-run Grizzlies fifth. After Las Vegas retired the leadoff batter, Robbie Grossman stepped to the plate and blasted a solo homer over the left-center field wall on the first pitch he saw. Tyler White lined out, but then Domingo Santana was hit by a pitch and Matt Duffy poked a single to set up the real fireworks. Joe Sclafani, who singled in a run and scored in the second, drilled a two-out two-run triple to right and was followed by Nolan Fontana, who scored him with a triple of his own. The back-to-back triples were the first for Fresno in two years. Armed with a 7-0 lead through five innings, the Grizzlies coasted towards the eight-run victory.

Mike Hauschild continued to be a road warrior, limiting the 51s to a run on three hits over 7.0 quality innings. He's now undefeated in nine road starts this season between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Fresno, including a 4-0 record with a 1.15 ERA (4 ER/31.1 IP) over five such outings with the Grizzlies.

Jonathan Villar (2) and Domingo Santana (15) added homers in the eighth.

Fresno has gone 4-3 in their brief stretch since the All-Star Break. In the four wins, they've scored 10, 10, nine, and eight runs.

Asher Wojciechowski looks to finish off a series victory for Fresno tomorrow night as he takes the hill against right-hander Dillon Gee. Wojciechowski tossed 7.0 scoreless innings against the 51s back during a 4-2 Fresno win on June 21st at Chukchansi Park. Gee began the season with the New York Mets (0-3, 5.90), but has pitched with Las Vegas since late June, going 3-1 with a 6.59 ERA (21 ER/28.2 IP). First pitch between Fresno and Las Vegas is set for 7:05 PM PT at Cashman Field and can be heard locally in Fresno on 1430 AM-KYNO.
