Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (55-44) took four of five games against the Oklahoma City Dodgers (60-37) to wrap up their season series, capped by a 6-3 series finale win. With the victory Omaha has trimmed the Dodgers division lead to 6.0 games, tied for the closest they have been in over two months, with 45 games left.
With the game tied at 1-1 in the eighth inning, a pair of singles by Jose Martinez and Balbino Fuenmayor set up a potential rally for Omaha. Brett Eibner then stepped to the plate and blasted a three-run shot to left, his team-leading 13th round-tripper on the season which upped his team-leading RBI total to 52. Eibner has 19 RBI this month, tied for the fifth most in the Pacific Coast League, and tied for his most runs driven in for a month in his career. The Chasers added two more runs in the eighth, and led 6-1.
The Dodgers did not go away easily as Chris Heisey hit a homer and Shawn Zarraga singled home a run to trim it to 6-3. With two men on and the potential tying run up at the plate with one out, Michael Mariot retired Elliot Johnson and struck out Darnell Sweeney to wrap up the win. It was the ninth victory for Omaha in the last ten games against Oklahoma City, and the Storm Chasers won the season set 10-6 over the Dodgers (which is the first tiebreaker in divisional races).
Overshadowed in the late rallies were solid outings from both starters, including another stellar performance from Omaha's John Lamb. The left-hander went six innings allowing just one run, his seventh start out of 17 where he has given up one run or less this season. The Storm Chasers have now won 14 of those 17 starts by Lamb in 2015, the highest winning percentage for any Omaha starter.
Omaha next welcomes Colorado Springs to town for a four-game series. Tomorrow also signals the start of "Concert Weekend" at Werner Park, with Vital Signs & Home Instead Senior Care Faith & Family Night 2015 with Post-Game Concert Grammy-nominated Francesca Battistelli. First pitch on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and MiLB.TV is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
