Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, are ecstatic to announce that forward Zack Torquato has been named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 18-24.

Torquato, 24, earns the honor for the first time in his four-year ECHL career, after posting three goals, four assists, and seven points, as the Nailers earned five of six possible points on the road last week. Zack factored into both goals in Wheeling's 3-2 shootout loss in Reading on Wednesday, assisting on Matt Grassi's first pro tally, while netting one of his own. On Saturday in Fort Wayne, the Sault Ste. Marie, ON native dished out three assists, including one on both the tying and winning goals. Finally, on Sunday, Torquato lit the lamp twice, including the eventual game winning goal, which he scored during the second period.

Zack is currently the Nailers' leading scorer, having accumulated five goals, 12 assists, and 17 points in 15 games, after being limited to 27 points in 45 games last year due to injury. On Sunday, the 6-foot forward appeared in his 200th professional game, having totaled 38 goals, 91 assists, and 129 points in his career.

On behalf of Zack Torquato, a case of pucks will be donated to the Wheeling Amateur Hockey Association (WAHA) by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 29,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.

Torquato and the Nailers will be back in action on Wednesday night in Cincinnati for the fourth game of a five-game road trip. Wheeling's next home game takes place on Saturday night against the Toledo Walleye.
