Wheeling's Torquato Named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Zack Torquato of the Wheeling Nailers is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 18-24.

Torquato scored three goals and added four assists as the Nailers went 2-0-1 last week, extending their unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1).

The 24-year-old opened the week with a goal and an assist in a 3-2 shootout loss at Reading before recording three assists in a 5-4 win at Fort Wayne on Saturday. He ended the week with a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in a 4-2 victory at Cincinnati on Sunday.

A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Torquato is currently riding a five-game point streak (4g-7a) and leads the Nailers this season with 17 points (5g-12a).

Torquato has recorded 128 points (37g-91a) in 176 career ECHL games with Wheeling, Toledo and Idaho. He has also appeared in 24 career American Hockey League games with Grand Rapids and Rockford.

On behalf of Zack Torquato, a case of pucks will be donated to a Wheeling youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 29,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
