March 18, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS (March 18th) - T he Central Hockey League announced today this year's All-CHL Team and defenseman Kevin Young has been selected to be a part of that group. Young becomes the third Thunder player to earn recognition to the All-CHL team and first since 2004-05 when Travis Clayton and Paul Esdale were both honored. He is one of five finalists for the Most Outstanding Defenseman Award that will be announced on Friday.
Young, 30, was signed at the end of last season and joined the Thunder during their run to the CHL Finals. This year has been a banner one for the White Rock, British Columbia native. He currently leads all blue liners in scoring with 52 points (20g, 32a) and is nearing a single-season Thunder record. The single-season mark is held by Paul Esdale with 22 goals in 2004-05. Young moved into a second place tie all-time with Dave Doucette, who had 20 tallies in 1994-95. Young was recently nominated as a finalist for Most Outstanding Defenseman. He has recorded 10 power play goals, which is tied for first in the league for defenseman. Twice this season he has scored goals in four-straight games.
Prior to coming back to Wichita, Young had spent his entire career overseas. He turned pro in 2005 with the Nijmegen Devils in the Netherlands, where he was a member of the League Champions. Young scored a career-high 65 points with Eindhoven Kemphanen and was named Netherlands Best Defenseman in 2010-11. He finished the season with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs where he won the 2011 CHL Championship.
The All-CHL Team was voted on by CHL Head Coaches.
