March 18, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
FORT WORTH, Texas (March 18) - The Central Hockey League announced Monday that Fort Worth Brahmas forward Austin Mayer was named Oakley CHL Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 17.
In three games last week, Mayer posted six points (three goals, three assists) and a +1 rating, as the Brahmas went 2-0-1 and earned five of six possible points in the weekend series versus the cross-town rival Allen Americans.
The Providence, Rhode Island native recorded two multi-point performances - both in Brahmas wins - and played a big role in the team's special-teams success. Mayer notched four points (two goals, two assists) on the power play.
The 6-foot, 190-pound winger now ranks fourth on the team with 37 points (13 goals, 24 assists). Mayer's +13 rating is the second-highest on the Brahmas and is tied for the third-highest among all CHL rookies this season.
The Brahmas are 17-5-3 this season in games when Mayer scores a point.
In his last 29 games, dating back to the team's 4-3 win over the Allen Americans January 11, Mayer has notched 30 points (10 goals, 20 assists) with a +11 rating. The Brahmas are 19-6-4 over that span.
This is the fourth Player of the Week award given to a Brahma this season and first for Mayer. Phil Fox won the award in late November and John Snowden earned the accolade twice - once in January and once in February.
The Brahmas hit the road this week for a three-game series versus the Arizona Sundogs in Prescott Valley, set to begin Wednesday, March 20. The two teams will also meet Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 to close out the regular season. Fort Worth is 5-3-0 against the Sundogs this season and 14-5-2 all-time.
The Brahmas have clinched home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Dates for the postseason home games will be announced shortly.
