Buffalo Bisons News Release
Bisons' infielder Jhonny Peralta and designated hitter Ernie Young have been named to the 2004 International League All-Star team today. The two will participate in the seventeenth Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 14 at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. First pitch of the annual Triple-A summer classic is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. (ESPN2).
Peralta has been a model of consistency at the plate this season, as his batting average has failed to fall below .330 since the tenth game of the season on April 20. The shortstop currently sits third in the International League in average, (.337), first in hits (93), tied for fourth in runs (49), tied for fifth in doubles (21) and tied for eighth in on-base percentage (.385). He has also put together hit streaks of ten games (4/18-4/27) and 14 games (5/17-5/31) already this season.
Young, meanwhile, is putting up great power numbers in his first season with the Bisons. While maintaining a solid .308 average, Young ranks seventh in the I.L. in homers (15), second in RBI (56) and sixth in slugging percentage (.589). Recently, he homered in three consecutive games (6/17-6/18 at Louisville), while back on April 29 he drove in seven runs against the Red Wings in Rochester.
Peralta will be making his first Triple-A All-Star appearance, while Young will be playing in his second game. In 2000, Young was voted in as an outfielder on his way to a 35 home run, 98 RBI season with Memphis (PCL).
The All-Star teams were chosen by media representatives, club field staffs and club and league administrators. For the seventh consecutive year, the Triple-A All-Star game will be played between players from the I.L. against members of the Pacific Coast League. Prior to that, the game was played in a National League Affiliates versus American League affiliates format.
