Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release
For the third time in the last four seasons the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons have placed at least four members of the club on the International League All-Star team.
Four Red Barons were chosen to participate in the seventeenth annual Triple-A All-Star Game to be held on Wednesday, July 14 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
Lou Collier, Jim Rushford, Jim Crowell and Dan Giese will all be traveling to McCoy Stadium, home of the Pawtucket Red Sox.
Collier was the only player selected as a starter by the league's managers and media. The outfielder is batting .306 with 11 HR and a team leading 52 RBI.
Rushford was named as a reserve outfielder after hitting .327 with 3 HR and 45 RBI.
Giese and Crowell will assume their familiar roles in the bullpen. Giese leads the International League with 9 wins to go along with his 3.53 ERA. Crowell is 2-1 with a 2.30 ERA and leads all IL lefthanders with 10 saves.
If all four attend the game it will be the first time in club history that has happened.
In 2001 five players â Kevin Orie, Brandon Duckworth, P.J. Forbes, Nelson Figueroa and Eric Valent were selected, but Figueroa and Valent were called up to Philadelphia before the game. In 2002 Joe Roa, Johnny Estrada, Nick Punto and Eric Valent were selected but Estrada was injured and did not attend.
