OTTAWA – The Ottawa Lynx are pleased to announce that Lynx catcher Geronimo Gil has been selected to represent Ottawa at the 2004 Triple-A All-Star game, to be held on July 14th in Pawtucket Rhode Island. Gil has been terrific behind the plate for the Lynx this season, catching 44 of the Lynx 73 games this season, while throwing out 36% of baserunners attempting to steal. He has also been a solid offensive force as the Lynx cleanup hitter, scoring 32 runs (second best on the Lynx) in 54 games.

Gil, 28, is in his 9th season of professional baseball. He started his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization until a 2001 trade brought him to the Baltimore Orioles. Gil has thrived with the Orioles, and over the last three seasons he has caught 196 games at the Major League level. Over the last two seasons with the Lynx, Gil has combined to hit .306 with four homers and 35 RBI.

The 17th annual Triple-A All-Star game pits the best players of the International League against their All-Star counterparts from the Pacific Coast League. The two teams were selected by club field personnel, media representatives, and league administrators. This will mark the seventh consecutive season that teams representing the International League and the Pacific Coast League have met.
