Lancaster Stormers News Release

Justin Greene, Wilson Valdez and Eric Patterson combined for eight of York's ten hits on Monday evening as the York Revolution retained control of the Community Cup with a 5-2, rain-delayed victory at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The win gave York retention of the Community Cup for another year. It gave York a 10-5 lead in the season series, guaranteeing a tie for the defending champions. York has also grabbed a one-game lead over the Barnstormers in the second half race in the Freedom Division.

Greene poked a double into the right field corner with one out in the third inning and moved to third base on a single through the left side by Valdez. Patterson dropped a perfect bunt down the third base line on a squeeze play, giving the Revs the early 1-0 lead off Dan Osterbrock.

The fifth inning was played with equal brilliance by the Revs offense. Sean Smith was able to yank a double down the left field line. Greene picked up a walk, bringing up Valdez. Osterbrock got two strikes on the right-handed batting shortstop, who crossed up the defense by laying down a perfect bunt for a single to load the bases. Patterson pulled a single into right for a 2-0 lead, and Chad Tracy's sac fly to center put York ahead, 3-0. An error on Bryant Nelson's grounder to first gave York a third run in the inning and a 4-0 lead.

Lancaster pulled within two of York in the bottom of the fifth. Singles by Lance Zawadzki and Dayton Buller and a walk to Jaime Pedroza loaded the bases off Corey Thurman (6-3). Cole Garner lined a single just beyond the reach of Valdez to drive in the pair. Thurman got a force play grounder from Andrew Clark, staying in long enough to earn the win.

Doubles by Greene and Valdez to the opposite field provided an insurance run off Shunsuke Watanabe in the sixth.

York bridged the rest of the game with four relievers for an inning apiece. Rommie Lewis earned the save, his 24th of the year, despite a leadoff double by Brock Kjeldgaard.

The series concludes at 7:00 on Tuesday evening. Chris Schwinden (9-2) will take the hill for Lancaster against lefty Logan Williamson (3-3). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45.

NOTES: Brett Carroll kept a hitting streak alive at six games with a single in the eighth...All nine Lancaster starters had one hit...Dayton Buller cut down two runners trying to steal...Cody Eppley has now struck out five of eight batters faced...Osterbrock lost for the first time since June 6.
