Extra Inning Rally Leads Ducks Past Bluefish

(Bridgeport, Conn., July 29, 2014) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 4-2 in 11 innings on Tuesday night in the final game of a four-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

The Ducks struck first in the opening inning on a run-scoring groundout from Brendan Harris off Bluefish starter D.J. Mitchell. The Bluefish pulled even in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run to left by Prentice Redman off Ducks starter Bobby Blevins.

Lew Ford put Long Island back in front with a two-out RBI single to right-center in the third. It stayed 2-1 all the way until the ninth inning when Austin Gallagher tied the game with a two-out solo homer to right.

Long Island rallied for two runs in the 11th inning to grab the lead for good. A throwing error by Gallagher on a bunt by Cody Puckett scored Adam Bailey, and a RBI single by Joash Brodin capped the inning.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Blevins tossed nine innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out eight. Mitchell lasted seven innings, surrendering two runs on nine hits and two walks with eight strikeouts. Brett Lorin (1-1) earned the win, tossing two perfect innings of relief, striking out two. Winston Abreu (0-5) took the loss, surrendering two runs (one earned) on three hits in one inning of relief.

Bailey led the Flock with four hits, while four others each added two.

The Ducks continue their road trip on Wednesday night when they open a three-game series against the Camden Riversharks. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from Campbell's Field. Right-hander Jared Lansford takes the mound for the Ducks against Riversharks righty Pedro Liriano. Long Island returns home on Saturday, August 2 to open a three-game series against the York Revolution. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. It's Military Appreciation Night at the ballpark! Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Pyrotecnico Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Northrop Grumman.
