
Somerset Holds on to Take Series

BRIDGEWATER, NJ . - The Somerset Patriots scored early and often and held on to defeat the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 7-6 in the rubber match of their three-game series. Somerset has now won all four series this season against Southern Maryland.
Matt Maloney (6-5) picked up the win pitching six innings of four-run baseball while Ian Marshall (7-6) had his four-start winning streak snapped as he was touched up for five runs, three earned, in 3.2 innings pitched. Jon Hunton earned his second save in as many nights and 31st of the year.
Jeff Dominguez homered in the bottom of the 1st inning to put Somerset in front Cory Harrilchak added his third of the season in the 2nd inning to double their lead to 2-0.
Luke Murton brought the Crabs within a run with an RBI double, but the Patriots added three more in the bottom of the 4th. Scott Kelly restored the two-run lead with an RBI single and two batters later, he and Harrilchak scored on an error by Marshall to make it 5-1.
Keith Castillo hit his first home run with Southern Maryland in the 5th inning and RBIs by Murton and Angel Chavez in the 6th cut the deficit to 6-4.
The Blue Crabs made it closer in the later innings but fell short by a run. Castillo's second RBI of the night came via an RBI double in the 8th and Bobby Stevens hit his first home run of the season with two outs in the 9th to close the gap to one. Jermaine Mitchell came in to pinch-hit and struck out to end the game.
The Blue Crabs continue their nine-game road trip as they travel to York to begin a three-game series with the Revolution at 6:30 PM. Southern Maryland will be back home Wednesday August 6 to begin a three-game series against the Long Island Ducks.
