Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - Kirby Yates pitched another five strong innings on Friday night at Bowling Green Ballpark, but the Dayton Dragons scratched out one run against him en route to a 6-0 series-sweeping win. The loss drops the Hot Rods to 7-8 in the second half as they head out on a nine-game, ten-day road trip beginning Saturday night.
Yates fought through a few early base runners giving up a two-out double in the second and a lead-off single in the third. After an easy fourth inning, Yates allowed his only run in the fifth by giving up consecutive one-out base hits before a two-out run-scoring single from Andrew Means to put the Dragons on top 1-0.
He left the game after five innings, allowing just the one run on six hits. He didn't walk anyone and struck out three in his sixth start of '10.
The Hot Rods offense, meanwhile, couldn't do much against Dayton pitching. Dragons' starting pitcher Ricky Bowen left the game after just three batters due to a leg injury, but Jason Braun came on and bottled the Hot Rods up over 3.1 shutout frames to earn the win. His only trouble came in the second inning when Bowling Green put runners at second and third with no out, but failed to push a run across before the end of the inning.
After Braun left, Ezequiel Infante enter the game and continued the scoreless run with three strong innings. He turned it over to Junior Martinez who closed the game down to drop the Hot Rods to 6-8 against the Dragons in 2010.
The Hot Rods now hit the road for a three-series road trip starting Saturday night in Lansing, MI, against the Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays). RHP Alexander Colome (5-5, 3.22) starts the game for the Hot Rods against Lansing RHP Dave Sever (2-5, 3.97) at 6:05 PM CDT. You can follow the game on the radio with Tom Gauthier beginning at 5:50 PM on 1340 AM WBGN and www.bghotrods.com.
The Hot Rods return home to begin an action-packed home stand on Wednesday, July 21 against the Quad Cities River Bandits, the Midwest League affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. For tickets and to check out the list of upcoming promotions, visit www.bghotrods.com.
