Clinton, IA - For the second time this season, the three-pitch mix of Quad Cities' right-hander Deryk Hooker kept the Clinton offense off the board as he and three River Bandits relievers combined on a five-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over the LumberKings Friday night at Alliant Energy Field.

Hooker (W, 4-4) extended his scoreless streak against the Kings to 11.0 innings, scattering three hits and two walks over 6.0 innings while striking out eight. Clinton's best chance against him came in the sixth inning when James Jones ripped a leadoff single to center and moved to second on a balk. Hooker received help from his defense as Nick Franklin lined a ball to second-baseman Devin Goodwin, who then doubled off Jones.

The pen proved no easier. Left-hander Dean Kiekhefer (H, 1) pitched a scoreless seventh, while right-handers Jason Novak (H, 1) and Aaron Terry (S, 10) worked scoreless eighth and ninth innings. The LumberKings had one last chance in the ninth as Tim Morris singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a wild pitch with one out. However, Terry struck out Kalian Sams and Matt Cerione to end the game.

Kings' right-hander Nolan Gallagher (L, 0-2) lost despite allowing only a run on six hits over 5.2 innings, lowering his ERA to 3.72. The Bandits scored their lone run in the fifth as Ross Smith doubled down the left-field line, moved to third on a single by Luis Mateo and scored on Frederick Parejo's grounder past third-baseman Mario Martinez.

Left-hander Jose Jimenez worked 2.1 scoreless innings and right-hander Jorden Merry added a scoreless frame to keep the Kings close.

Jones had Clinton's only multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a double. Mateo (2-for-4) and Ryan Jackson (2-for-5) led the eight-hit attack for the River Bandits.

The LumberKings (8-6) head to Kane County to take on the Cougars (8-7) for the first of a three-game series tomorrow night, first pitch from Elfstrom Stadium scheduled for 6:00 PM. Right-hander Taylor Stanton (6-4, 3.52) will make his 15th start of the season. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN in Clinton or live on the web at 1390kcln.com.
