Hartford Yard Goats News Release

Bowie, MD - The Hartford Yard Goats blasted a pair of two-run homers in the final two innings and had runners on base in the ninth inning, but their rally fell short in a 7-6 loss to the Bowie Baysox on Thursday night at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Maryland. It was the first game of a four game weekend series. Hartford had a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning before the Baysox scored six runs to take the lead for good. Dom Nunez and Scott Burcham homered for the Yard Goats who were denied a third straight win.

The Yard Goats scored a pair of runs in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead against Baysox starter John Means. Scott Burcham and Garrett Hampson had back to back singles to start the inning. Dom Nunez' deep fly advanced the runners to second and third and Means threw a wild pitch allowing Burcham to score the first run of the game. Yonathan Daza followed with an RBI single scoring Hampson and giving the Yard Goats a 2-0 edge.

However, the Baysox cut the lead in half with a run in the fourth inning on Ryan Mountcastle's RBI single. Bowie then blasted two homers to highlight a six-run rally in the fifth inning. After Cedrick Mullins cracked an RBI triple, Ausin Hays followed with a two-run homer and later in the inning Aderlin Rodriguez cranked a three-run homer and the Baysox never looked back. Ryan Castellani, who retired the first seven batters and allowed one run over the first four innings, was tagged with the loss, giving up seven runs on nine hits.

The Yard Goats continue their four game weekend series Friday night at 7:05 pm at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Maryland. RHP Jesus Tinoco will start for the Yard Goats while LHP Keegan Akin starts for the Baysox. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and streamed on newsradio.1410.com and MiLB.com.
