Akron RubberDucks News Release
Erie's Jake Robson scored on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning with two outs to snap a 3-3 tie and give the SeaWolves a 4-3 win over the Akron RubberDucks on Thursday night at Canal Park in Akron, Ohio.
Turning Point
The SeaWolves (12-20) scored in the ninth with two outs after Robson struck out but reached first on a wild pitch by Akron's Mitch Brown. Three more wild pitches moved him around the bases and gave Erie the 4-3 win.
Mound Presence
RHP Cameron Mingo made his third start for Akron (20-13) and he matched his last outing with five innings pitched with one earned run allowed. He walked his first batter of the season and fanned a career high three. Mingo left the game with Akron up 2-1 in the top of the sixth. Leandro Linares pitched two innings, allowing a pair of runs in the sixth, one on a squeeze bunt and the other on a wild pitch. Mitch Brown came in with the score tied 3-3 in the 8th inning. After a 1-2-3 8th inning, Brown allowed a run in the ninth on a walk and four wild pitches to fall to 0-2 on the year.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks managed 12 hits including three by Joe Sever to improve his average to .319. Tyler Krieger, Sicnarf Loopstok, Connor Marabell and Todd Hankins each had a pair of hits, while Dorssys Paulino and Hankins each doubled for the team's only extra-base hits of the game. Akron went up 2-1 by scoring twice in the third inning, once on Loopstok's RBI single and Mark Mathias hit a sacrifice fly to score Sever who singled that inning. They rallied to tie it 3-3 with a run in the seventh inning. Willi Castro reached on a fielder's choice and stole second base. Then, Sever singled to right field and was caught in a rundown between first and second when Erie shortstop Sergio Alcantara missed a throw from the first baseman, allowing Castro to come in with the tying run. Akron would threaten in the eighth inning, but Hankins was stranded at second base after his one-out double.
