
Yard Goats Put up 12 Runs and Sink Sea Dogs

Portland, ME - The Hartford Yard Goats opened up an important road trip against first-place Portland by scoring four runs in the first inning, and added six runs in the fifth en route to a 12-6 victory against the Sea Dogs on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. Zac Veen had three hits, 2 RBI and scored two runs, and Julio Carreras had three hits, including a triple, while driving in two runs in his Double-A debut, as the Yard Goats stayed perfect 7-0 in Maine. Hartford used a 14-hit attack to knock the Sea Dogs out of first place. The Yard Goats are now in 3rd place and 2 GB of Somerset who leads the division.
The Yard Goats scored four runs in the first inning off Portland starter Brian Van Belle. Aaron Schunk drove in the first run with an RBI single and Grant Lavigne followed with a two-run double to make it 3-0. Willie MacIver added a run on a sacrifice fly. Van Belle threw 35 pitches and was taken out after a two out walk in the first inning.
The Yard Goats added six runs in the fifth inning and did some damage against former Boston Red Sox lefty Kyle Hart. Kyle Datres cranked a two-run home run to make it 6-1 and later that inning Julio Carreras contributed with a 2 RBI single. Hunter Stovall and Zac Veen finished the rally with RBI hits and it was 10-1 Yard Goats after five innings.
Hartford starter Noah Davis was reached for a run in the first inning but only surrendered one run on an infield hit in five innings, with five walks and five strikeouts to earn his eighth win of the season.
The Sea Dogs got a three-run homer by Alex Binelas in the sixth inning, and added two runs in the seventh.
The Yard Goats and Sea Dogs play the second of a six-game series on Wednesday night (6:00 PM). RHP Mike Ruff will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Bryan Mata will start for the Sea Dogs. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP, 100.9 FM, and on the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday, August 30th to host the Reading Fightin Phils.
