
Yard Goats Held Scoreless in Road Trip Finale

Portland, ME - Five Sea Dogs pitchers combined for a shutout victory as Portland defeated Hartford 5-0 on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. The Red Sox affiliate took advantage of four Yard Goats errors which led to four unearned runs in the finale of a six-game series. Sea Dogs starter Denyi Reyes pitched five scoreless, allowing four singles, one walk and recorded two strikeouts, to earn a win in his first start of the season. Coco Montes had two hits for the Yard Goats who will return home to Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday, June 1st to host the Bowie Baysox.
The Sea Dogs scored the first run of the game in the first inning off Hartford starting pitcher Frank Duncan. Joey Meneses reached on a two-out error, and then eventually scored on a double by Johan Mieses which gave Portland a 1-0 lead.
Portland added two more unearned runs in the fourth inning to make it 3-0. The Sea Dogs loaded the bases on a single, error, and hit batsman. Next, Ryan Fitzgerald walked with the bases loaded, scoring Joey Meneses, giving Portland a 2-0 lead. Jhonny Pereda followed with a ground ball double play bringing home Johan Mieses and making it 3-0.
Sea Dogs pitching continued to put up zeros as Hartford batters managed only four singles and a walk off Reyes who retired the side in order in the first and fifth innings. Relievers Dominic LoBrutto and Jake Thompson sat down all six batters faced in over the next two frames. Rio Gomez and Zach Kelly pitched the final two innings and worked around three hits to keep the shutout.
Portland scored a run in the seventh inning on a two-out single by Ronaldo Hernandez, bringing in Grant Williams who led off the frame with a bunt single and it was 4-0. The Sea Dogs fifth run scored on a dropped ball in the outfield in the eighth inning to make it 5-0.
The Yard Goats open a six-game homestand against the Bowie Baysox (Baltimore Orioles affiliate) at Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday, June 1st and tickets are available at yardgoatsbaseball.com.
