Hartford Yard Goats News Release

HARTFORD - Alan Trejo homered among his four hits and had four RBI, as the Hartford Yard Goats pummeled the Trenton Thunder, 13-7, Sunday before a capacity crowd of 6,850 on Jewish Heritage Night. Hartford (19-24) unleashed a 15-hit attack, in the process chasing New York Yankees' pitching prospect Michael King. The Yard Goats took two out of three from Trenton (21-25) and won the season series from the Eastern Division first-half winners, 9-5. Hartford has also won two straight series.

The sellout crowd was the 37th of the season at Dunkin' Donuts Park and 15th consecutive sellout. It was also the 20th capacity crowd of the year and seventh straight. Hartford has drawn 321,077 with 14 home dates remaining in 2019.

Yard Goats hurler Matt Dennis, who improved to 3-2, was the beneficiary of the offensive onslaught, but he also turned in his third quality start in his last four outings. The right-hander permitted one run in six innings of work, scattering four hits. He walked three and struck out three.

Hartford sent eight men to the plate in the first inning against King, who was making his second AA start. The right-hander, ranked the fifth best prospect in the Yankees system, had been on the IL with a stress fracture of his elbow. An RBI-single by Mylz Jones and two-run single by Chris Rabago accounted for the scoring.

The Yard Goats reached the Warwick, RI native for four runs in the second, highlighted by Trejo's two-run single. Hartford chased King with four runs in the fourth, led by Tyler Nevin's opposite field, two-run homer into the upper deck in right-center. It was his seventh of the season. Trejo's team-leading 14th home run in the fifth closed out the scoring for the Yard Goats.

The Thunder produced some lightening of their own against the Hartford bullpen, with four runs in the seventh and two in the eighth. They scored their first run in the fourth on a tape-measure home run off Dennis by Isiah Gilliam, who pulled it out of Dunkin' Donuts Park, over the right-field fence and onto Trumbull St.

King, who fell to 0-1, allowed 10 runs on 10 hits in three innings plus.

Trejo led the Hartford offense with a home run, two doubles, single and four RBI. Luis Castro reached base five times with three singles, a walk and hit-by-pitch. He scored four runs.

Max Burt and Hoy Jun Park each had two hits for Trenton.

Following a day off on Monday, the Yard Goats will hit the road for a three-game series in Reading, starting on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. RHP Heath Holder will pitch for Hartford against RHP Julian Garcia for Reading. The game will be broadcast on News Radio 1410 AM, on 100.9 FM, in Spanish on 1120 AM and on the internet on newsradio1410.iheart.com. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Donuts Park to open a seven-game home stand Friday, Aug. 9 at 7:05 p.m. against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the New York Mets affiliate. A fireworks show will follow the game.
