
Portland's Daniel McGrath Named July Player of the Month

Scarborough, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce Portland Sea Dogs left-handed starting pitcher Daniel McGrath has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of July. McGrath made six starts for the Sea Dogs during the month of July and had a record of 2-0 with 35 strikeouts and a 0.24 ERA over 37.0 innings of work. The 25-year old did not allow an earned run in five of his six starts during the month and struck out at least five batters in all six starts. That included a performance on July 25th against the visiting Harrisburg Senators where McGrath tied his career-high by throwing eight innings in Portland's 1-0, 10-inning loss. He scattered two hits while striking out six batters and walking one over his eight innings of work. With his outing on July 25th, Daniel extended a streak of 46 innings without allowing an earned run for Portland. The streak dated back to an appearance on May 28th, but was snapped in the third inning of Daniel's start on July 31st at Richmond.
The 6'3", 205 lb. hurler led all Eastern League pitchers in ERA (0.24) during the month of July. He also finished ranked among the monthly league leaders in innings pitched (37.0-2nd), batting average against (.151-2nd), WHIP (0.89-2nd), and strikeouts (35-4th).
McGrath, who is a native of Melbourne, Australia, has appeared in 22 games, including 10 starts, for the Sea Dogs this season and has put together a record of 3-0 with one save, 78 strikeouts and a 1.46 ERA over 80 innings pitched.
Daniel, who also won the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of July 22nd-July 28th, was signed by the Boston Red Sox as an international free agent on February 7, 2012.
