Yard Goats Chew-Up 'Dogs 4-3 in Extra Innings

Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs (19-20, 59-49) drop the series finale in the tenth inning with a 4-3 loss to the Hartford Yard Goats (18-19, 46-57) on Sunday afternoon.

Brainer Bonaci extended a five-game hitting streak after going two-for-four with a double (2) and a single. Matthew Lugo also recorded a multi-hit game going two-for-four with a double and a single. Wikelman Gonzalez fired 5.2 innings allowing striking out eight before Alex Hoppe and Luis Guerrero combined for 2.1 shutout innings in relief.

Drew Romo put Hartford on the board first in the top of the second with an RBI single before a passed ball allowed Warming Bernabel to score from third and the Yard Goats took the 2-0 lead.

Portland cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second after an RBI double from Elih Marrero (8) scored Matthew Lugo.

In the top of the third, Yanquiel Fernandez hit an RBI single to extend the 3-1 Hartford lead.

Portland scored two in the bottom of the fifth after a sacrifice fly to center field from Tyler McDonough scored Corey Rosier. An RBI double from Blaze Jordan (4) scored Bonaci who also reached on a double (2) and the Sea Dogs tied it at three.

Hartford reliever RHP Stephen Jones (1-1, 2.05 ERA) earned the win after pitching 2.0 scoreless innings allowing one hit while striking out three. He did not issue a walk. The save was awarded to LHP Austin Kitchen (2). The loss was issued to Portland reliever RHP Wyatt Olds (0-4, 8.37 ERA) after pitching 1.0 inning allowing one unearned run while striking out one. He did not issue a walk.

The Sea Dogs hit the road to take on the Binghamton Rumble Ponies for a six-game series beginning on Tuesday, August 15th, 2023. First pitch for game one is slated for 6:35pm. Both probable pitchers have yet to be announced.
