Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - Matt Fraizer socked a two-run homer, but Altoona dropped their Sunday night finale against the Erie SeaWolves, 5-4, in front of 7,381 fans at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Erie built a 5-0 lead after four innings against Anthony Solometo and Nick Dombkowski on the mound for Altoona. Solometo allowed three runs on four hits and one walk in one inning of work in his return from the Development List. Dombkowski then entered in relief and tossed five innings for the Curve but allowed a two-run homer to Trei Cruz in the fourth inning to build the lead for the SeaWolves.
Altoona scratched out their first run in the fifth inning using an error, a walk, and a double from Connor Scott to plate an unearned run off Erie's starter Lael Lockhart. Lockhart struck out seven in five innings of work to earn his second win of the series.
Later in the sixth, Tsung-Che Cheng opened the frame with a double off reliever Jake Higginbotham and advanced to third on a Matt Gorski single. Cheng would score on a balk by Higginbotham before Fraizer hit his two-run home run to cap off the scoring for the Curve.
Erie's bullpen ranked up six strikeouts over the final three innings to secure the win. Altoona's only baserunner in the final frames was Jacob Gonzalez who was hit by a pitch to start the ninth inning, but was stranded there as Andrew Magno finished off his ninth save of the season.
Oliver Garcia, Tyler Samaniego, and Tahnaj Thomas each spun a scoreless inning in relief with one strikeout for the Curve to close out the game. With the loss, Altoona drops five of seven games to the SeaWolves in the series and falls to 16-21, 50-55 on the season.
Altoona has an off-day on Monday before traveling to Bowie on Tuesday to take on the Baysox, Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The first pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. with RHP Sean Sullivan taking the ball for Altoona against RHP Connor Gillispie for Bowie.
