Reading Fightin Phils News Release

(Manchester, NH) - Manager Al Pedrique claimed his 1,000th managerial win as the Reading Fightin Phils (18-20, 46-60) topped the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (14-22, 49-55) 8-3 on Sunday. The Fightin Phils salvage a second win as this week's six-game series concludes.

As they had most of the week, the Fightin Phils struck first in the top of the first. Madison Stokes led off the game with a triple to center and came around to score on a throwing error to put Reading up 1-0.

New Hampshire responded with three runs in the third. Sebastien Espino led off the frame with a single and Steward Berroa reached on a bunt single to put two men on. Alan Roden continued the string of hits with a single to center that loaded the bases. Leo Jiminez then knocked a single to score Espino and Damiano Palmegiani followed with a sac fly to plate Berroa. Miguel Hiralod was next with a single that knocked Roden home and made it 3-1 Fisher Cats.

Reading would respond with three runs of its own in the fifth. Pedro Martinez reached on a single to right and De La Cruz singled to put two men on for the Fightin Phils. A passed ball moved the runners to third and Oliver Dunn walked to load the bases. Robbie Glendinning, Ethan Wilson, and Jhailyn Ortiz all worked bases-loaded walks to knock in runs, which put Reading up 4-3 at the end of the frame.

Troy Watson (L, 1-5) walked four batters in total and surrendered three-earned runs for New Hampshire.

The R-Phils added insurance runs on in the seventh. Ethan Wilson led off the inning with a double and moved to third on an Ortiz single. Baron Radcliff grounded out, but it scored Wilson. Cody Roberts then singled and stole second to put runners on second and third for Reading. After a fielder's choice, Stokes singled home Roberts and put Reading up 6-3.

Another insurance run came from Reading in the top of the eighth when Ortiz singled to score Glendinning and make it 7-3 Fightin Phils. De La Cruz then doubled down the right field line to score Stokes in the ninth and make it 8-3.

Matt Oseterberg (W, 1-0) started for Reading and was solid in his first Double-A start. The lefty went 5.2 frames, and allowed three runs on six hits, with six strikeouts. Tristan Garnett relieved Osterberg and went 1.1 scoreless frames before Dominic Pipkin took over in the bottom of the eighth. After two-thirds of an inning from Pipkin, Max Kuhns came in to finish the eighth. Orion Kerkering entered in the ninth inning and finished off the series-ending victory for Reading.

After an off day tomorrow, the Fightin Phils return home Tuesday to begin a six-game series with the Somerset Patriots (Yankees). Tickets to all games are available at rphils.com/tickets, by calling 610-370-BALL, or in person at the Customers Bank Ticket Office.
