September 3, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Staten Island Yankees News Release

After taking the series opener behind strong pitching on Wednesday night, the Staten Island Yankees (37-34) were unable to push enough runs across, falling to the Tri-City ValleyCats (40-31) in extra innings, 6-1.

In his third start as part of the Baby Bombers, James Kaprielian went 3.2 scoreless innings, striking out 6 batters.

The ValleyCats pushed across the first run of the ball game in the sixth inning as Johnny Sewald singled to center then stole second base to put himself in scoring position, coming across the plate on a Dexture McCall single.

The Yankees struck back in the eighth inning. Kyle Holder singled to right field, followed by a Zack Zehner single that allowed Holder to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jeff Hendrix, knotting the game at 1-1.

With Andre Del Bosque (L, 1-2) on in relief, the game went into extra innings, but Tri-City wasted no time putting the game to rest. McCall continued to manufacture runs for the ValleyCats, smashing a three-run bomb to right field, clinching the game.

With the win, the Tri-City ValleyCats clinched the Stedler Division, booking their spot in the New York-Penn League playoffs. Staten Island remains in first place in the McNamara Division with four games left to play.

The two teams wrap up the series on Friday night at 7 p.m. for Fan Appreciation Night. The Baby Bombers will wear special Staten Island flag-themed jerseys that will be given away to a number of lucky fans after the game. Friday is also the final post-game fireworks show of 2015.
