Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Burlington, VT (9/3/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades were defeated by the Vermont Lake Monsters by a score of 4-1 on Thursday evening at Centennial Field.

Hudson Valley's shortstop Michael Russell hit a triple to right field with one out in the top of the first inning and later scored as third baseman Alex Schmidt reached on a fielding error, giving the Renegades a 1-0 lead.

Vermont took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by first baseman Chris Iriart's RBI double. Left fielder Seth Brown and right fielder Brett Siddall each had RBI groundouts during the inning and a run scored on a passed ball as well.

That would be all the scoring for the night as both team's offenses were held in check from the second inning onwards. The best chance that the Renegades had to cut into Vermont's lead came in the top of the third inning when Russell doubled and stole third base after Schmidt walked and moved up to second base on a wild pitch. But Vermont's relief pitcher John Gorman (2-2) struck out the side to end the inning and preserve the lead.

Gorman picked up the win for Vermont in relief as he tossed two scoreless innings while striking out three. Hudson Valley's starting pitcher Angel Yepez (5-3) took the loss as he allowed four runs and one earned run in five innings of work while striking out six batters.

With the result, the Renegades saw their record fall to 37-35 while Vermont improves to 31-40.

Notes: Hudson Valley's Taylor Hawkins went one-for-three with a double on Thursday evening, improving his hit streak to four games and has picked up a hit in 11 of his last 14 games played. During this stretch that dates back to August 11th, the Oklahoma native has four multi-hit games, eight extra-base hits and has driven in eight runs.

The Renegades conclude their series against Vermont on Friday, September 4th with first pitch set for 7:05pm. Hudson Valley returns to Dutchess Stadium to host the Aberdeen IronBirds on Saturday, September 5th at 7:05pm with a fireworks show to follow the game.
