-LAST GAME: Juan Perez struck out nine batters, but the State College Spikes took a 8-0 defeat at the hands of the Batavia Muckdogs on Wednesday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, putting them a game back of the New York-Penn League Wild Card lead with five games remaining in the 2015 regular season. Perez went six innings on the mound, allowing four runs, three of them earned, on six hits, two walks and a hit batsman. The right-hander had also struck out 10 Batavia batters on July 18 to tie a single-game franchise record. State College threatened early, loading the bases with one out in the second after a walk to Orlando Olivera followed by base hits from R.J. Dennard and Ronnierd Garcia. However, a double play ended the threat, and the Spikes would be limited to four hits on the night. Angel Reyes was the big bat in the Batavia lineup, finishing just a home run shy of the cycle with a four-hit night.

-WIRSU STARTS FOR SPIKES: State College right-hander Josh Wirsu gets his third start of the season with the Spikes as he takes the hill tonight. Wirsu took the loss against Williamsport on August 24 in his Spikes debut, despite not allowing a run past the first inning. -PETERS GETS BALL FOR MUCKDOGS: Batavia left-hander Dillon Peters will make his seventh start of the year for the Muckdogs tonight. Peters took the loss on Saturday against Williamsport after allowing five runs, three earned, on seven hits and two walks while striking out five over 4 2/3 innings. The Indianapolis native was the Marlins' 10th-round selection in the 2014 MLB Draft out of the University of Texas, but did not pitch in the pros last year. Peters began his season with four starts for the GCL Marlins before getting called up to Batavia, where he has recorded 25 strikeouts over 27 2/3 innings.
