
Hudson Valley Splits Twin-Bill With Vermont

Burlington, VT (9/2/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades split a doubleheader against the Vermont Lake Monsters on Wednesday evening at Centennial Field as the Renegades won game one 6-2 and lost game two by a score of 3-2.
In game one, the Renegades scored four runs in the top of the first inning as shortstop Joseph Astacio walked to lead off the game and scored on a RBI single from first baseman Matt Dacey. Designated hitter Manny Sanchez followed up with a single and both runners scored on a two-run double from catcher Taylor Hawkins, giving Hudson Valley a 3-0 lead. The inning was capped off on a RBI single from center fielder Garrett Whitley and the Renegades did not look back from there.
Vermont's left fielder Brett Siddall hit a RBI double in the bottom of the second inning to cut the Hudson Valley lead to 4-1 but the 'Gades scored a run in both the fourth and the fifth innings. Left fielder Angel Moreno drove in right fielder Jose Paez on a RBI double in the fourth inning and a Whitley RBI groundout in the fifth inning extended the Renegades lead to 6-1. The Lake Monsters scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a solo home run from center fielder Skye Bolt, bringing the score to 6-2 Hudson Valley.
Roel Ramirez (4-3) earned the win for the Renegades as he allowed one run off six hits in five innings of work while striking out three. Dustin Driver (1-5) took the loss for Vermont as in three innings pitched, he gave up four runs off four hits.
In game two, Vermont scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning as shortstop Richie Martin drove in a run on a triple and scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by second baseman Trace Loehr. The Lake Monsters took a 3-0 lead later in the inning on a solo home run from first baseman Seth Brown.
Hudson Valley cut the deficit to 3-1 in the top of the third inning as catcher Danny De La Calle led off the inning with a double and moved to third base on a ground out from Whitley. Shortstop Michael Russell reached on an error later in the inning and allowed De La Calle to score.
The Renegades cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the sixth inning as Sanchez reached on an error, stole second base and advanced to third base on an error and scored on a RBI sacrifice fly from Moreno.
That was the closest that the Renegades would come as Vermont's James Naile tossed a scoreless top of the seventh inning to pick up his fifth save of the season.
The win goes to Vermont's relief pitcher Tyler Painton (2-1) who did not allow a run in two innings of work. Hudson Valley's starter John Williams (1-1) took the loss as he allowed three runs off three hits in four innings pitched.
Notes: Angel Moreno had a good night offensive during Wednesday night's doubleheader. He combined to go three-for-six in the two games with a multi-hit effort in game one and two RBI. Moreno, who currently leads the Renegades in hits with 61, has had six multi-hit games in his last 11 games played and 16 total multi-hit games in 2015.
