Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls (34-46), presented by Towne Properties, led into the middle innings against the Evansville Otters (44-35) but ultimately fell 11-10 in a high-scoring, series-tying defeat at Thomas More Stadium on Wednesday.

A busy first inning saw Evansville strike first to begin the game. A leadoff walk put left fielder Noah Myers aboard before a stolen base and an error placed him at third. With two runners on, Evansville executed a double steal that sacrificed its runner at first to bring home its runner from third without a throw. Down a run in the first, Florence jumped ahead for its first lead of the night with a three-run opening inning. A trio of walks drawn against Evansville righthander Jon Beymer (3.0 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 4 K) loaded the bases for second baseman Harrison DiNicola, who drove in two runners with a single. Catcher Nick Wimmers' subsequent two-out single plated a third Florence run. After one inning, the Y'alls led 3-1.

The early scoring set the tone for a shootout that saw the two teams combined for nine runs through three innings. Evansville scored two runs in each of the second and third innings on a pair of two-run home runs from Noah Myers and first baseman Dakota Phillips. The Y'alls tacked on a run in the third on an RBI single from shortstop Ed Johnson before putting together a long fifth-inning rally. Florence batted around in the fourth against two Evansville pitchers, scoring five runs to jump ahead 9-5. Home runs from third baseman Brian Fuentes and center fielder Ray Zuberer - a two-run shot for his second of the series - punctuated the offensive burst.

Evansville responded with a spirited comeback effort. The Otters plated two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to regain the lead. Dakota Phillips' two-out, two-RBI single in the sixth gave the Otters a 10-9 advantage they would ultimately never relinquish. The Y'alls trailed 11-9 heading into the ninth inning and scored a run off of Otters' closer Jake Polancic, but stranded the tying run at second base in an 11-10 loss.

The series between Florence and Evansville is now tied 1-1. The season series is tied 4-4. The deciding Game 3 between Florence and Evansville is scheduled for Thursday, August 17th at 6:34 p.m. ET.
