Grizzlies Shut Out In Washington
August 16, 2023 - Frontier League (FL)
Gateway Grizzlies News Release
Sauget, IL - The Gateway Grizzlies continued to sputter at Wild Things Park, as they were shut out 5-0 by the Washington Wild Things, and were held to a total of four hits and one walk in suffering their second shutout loss in Washington in as many weeks.
Washington got on the board before Carson LaRue (5-6) could record an out on an Anthony Brocato leadoff single in the first inning followed by a two-run home run by Wes Darvill, making the score 2-0 Wild Things. Washington would score two more runs in the fifth inning and one in the seventh to add to their lead and account for the final 5-0 score.
LaRue would pitch a complete game for the second time this season, preserving the Grizzlies' bullpen with three strikeouts and two walks over a season-high eight innings. But Gateway's offense was able to conjure up just four singles in the contest, with two by Jairus Richards, and had just two innings with runners in scoring position in the series-clinching defeat.
The Grizzlies will look to salvage the series finale on Thursday, August 17, at 6:05 p.m., with Lukas Veinbergs getting the start against the Wild Things' Hayden Shenefield at Wild Things Park.
