THE LEAD OFF: The Power snapped their two game slide with a 7-3 win at Delmarva on Friday night. The Power plated five runs on five hits in the top of the first. Pablo Reyes drove in the game's first run before Chase Simpson and Kawika Emsley-Pai each drove in a pair with singles. The Shorebirds scored twice in the third, but West Virginia answered with a run-scoring single from Cole Tucker in the fourth. Delmarva added a run against Yeudy Garcia in the fifth before West Virginia closed the scoring in the eighth. Garcia earned his third win and Jose Regalado pitched the final four innings for his second save of the week. All nine Power batters had at least one hit and three players had multi-hit games.
TAKEN FOR A LOOP: Jordan Luplow's seventh inning double extended his current hitting streak to nine games, one shy of matching his career best. The third baseman has 10 hits over his last nine games, spanning 40 at bats. In 2014 while with Jamestown, Luplow hit safely in ten straight from July;7 though 20 (13 for 41 for a .317 average).
SUITS YOU WELL: In five games since being activated off the Power Disabled List, Jerrick Suiter is batting .381 with a home run and six runs batted in. The TCU product has also extended his on-base streak in each game played and has now been on base in each of his last 15 games dating back to April 16 prior to his stint on the DL.
ALOHA MEANS GETTING ON BASE: Kawika Emsley-Pai has hit safely in six straight games and is batting .526 since May 16. The Power catcher has ten hits over his last 19 at bats. Emsley-Pai has also driven in at least one run in each of the six games during the streak and in eight of his last nine overall.
WELCOME BACK: Jeff Roy was activated off the Power Disabled List on Friday. Roy suffered a wrist injury on May 16 while making a diving catch at Hagerstown. The outfielder was hitting .300 at the time of his injury and had reached base in seven straight before being placed on the disabled list.
GOOD SEEING YOU, BUT: Andy Otamendi was transferred to Extended Spring Training on Friday to clear a roster spot for Jeff Roy. Otamendi was promoted from Extended Sprint Training on Thursday, warmed up once in the bullpen Thursday night, but did not appear in a game during his 19 hour stint on the active Power roster.
STREAKS ALIVE: In addition to Jerrick Suiter's 14 game on base streak, Tyler Filliben has also reached safely in 14 consecutive games. Filliben has been on base at least once in each game he has played in the month of May, starting on May 3 at Greensboro. The longest on-base streak for a Power player this season belongs to Pablo Reyes, who reached in 19 straight from April 23 though May 15.
I RAN: West Virginia and Delmarva will meet 15 total times this season, though this four game series is the Power's only trip to Salisbury, Maryland. Since 2005, the Power are Shorebirds have played 125 games against each other and West Virginia holds a 643-61 lead. The Shorebirds have a 31-23 mark at home in the all-time series.
POWER PROMO UPDATE- JUNE 2: West Virginia will host its first of two Pets in the Park this season at Appalachian Power Park on Tuesday, June 2. Fans are invited to bring their dogs, cats, and other ballpark-friendly animals for a night of fun in Charleston.
POWER POINTS: Trace Tam Sing was transferred to Extended Spring Training on Thursday. The infielder has appeared in 20 games for the Power this season, batting .222 with 13 runs batted in... West Virginia's road record now at 12-13. The club has not held a winning record on the road since April 21.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh's winning streak was snapped at seven straight with a 6-2 loss to Sane Diego on a walk-off grand slam by Derek Norris... Indianapolis beat Toledo 5-4. Keon Broxton homered in his first Triple-A at bat... Altoona beat Binghamton 2-1. Angel Sanchez moved to 5-1 with the victory... Bradenton lost 10-1 to Daytona. Frank Duncan allowed eight runs on nine hits in the loss.
