(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Heralded Boston Red Sox prospect Yoan Moncada hit one of three Greenville home runs as the Drive took an 11-4 win over the Lexington Legends in front of 6,849 fans Saturday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
The Drive scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Maurcio Dubon led off the game with a double and scored on a single by Derek Miller. Miller advanced to third on a single by Rafael Devers, and after the next two hitters were retired, Miller scored as Moncada reached on a throwing error by third baseman Wander Franco.
Carlos Mesa's two-run homer in the third inning gave Greenville a 4-0 lead, but the Legends bounced back with three runs in the bottom of the third, helped by two Greenville errors. Kyle Pollock had a run-scoring single for the Legends.
Greenville's Michael Chavis led off the fourth with a home run, but the Legends countered with a run in the bottom of the inning when Samir Duenez singled, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a base hit by Luis Villegas, leaving Greenville with a 5-4 lead.
Moncada, a native of Cuba who signed with Boston for $31.5 million earlier this year, hit his first home run in the sixth. The two -run shot followed Mesa's leadoff single.
The Drive added a run in the eighth on doubles by Cisco Tellez and Moncada, and Greenville scored three more in the top of the ninth. With one out, Dubon singled, stole second and third, and came home on Miller's double. After Devers grounded out, Tellez doubled, scoring Miller, and Tellez scored on a single by Mesa.
Greenville starter Jalen Meeks (5-1) got the win. Legends starter Foster Griffin (0-1) was the losing pitcher.
Greenville has won two of the first three games of the series, which concludes Sunday. Game time is 2:05 p.m.
