Borden: Allowed 3 R on 5 H over 5.0 IP in 7/02 L vs. HIC with 8 K and 0 BB (5-1 HIC)
THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia fell in walk-off fashion to the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Sunday afternoon 9-6 at NewBridge Bank Park. The Power and Grasshoppers traded runs in the first before Francisco Diaz doubled in a pair in the second to give the Power the lead. Greensboro answered with a Felix Munoz RBI double, but JaCoby Jones blasted solo home runs in the third and fifth to put West Virginia back on top. Kawika Emsley-Pai's solo smack in the sixth gave the Power a 6-4 advantage. The Grasshoppers, however, came right back with two in the eighth behind a Carlos Lopez RBI triple and then in the ninth, Austin Dean walked-off with a three-run home run. Isaac Sanchez was handed his first loss.
FLOCK OFF: West Virginia and Delmarva open up their final series of the 2014 season tonight. The Power and Shorebirds have played each other 130 times since 2005 and the all-time series is split at 65 wins apiece. The Power hold a 25-31 mark at when visiting Salisbury.
NOT ONE, NOT TWO, NOT THREE: JaCoby Jones was named the South Atlantic League's Player of the Week on Monday after blasting five home runs over the course of a week. The shortstop hit .500 (12-for-24) over the week with a double, five home runs and seven RBIs. Jones became the first Power player since Jose Osuna in 2012 to homer in three consecutive games on Sunday. JaCoby was also the first Power player to homer twice in a game in 2014 and is now third in the league in long balls.
THE HITS KEEP COMING: Harold Ramirez notched a single in the first on Tuesday and extended his hitting streak to 23 consecutive games. Ramirez has now broken Starling Marte's Power franchise record of 22 games and passed Pat Valaika (Asheville) for longest hit streak in the South Atlantic League this season. The outfielder is hitting .346 since the streak started on June 5.
MAKING MOVES: The Pittsburgh Pirates promoted Michael Fransoso to the West Virginia Power roster from Jamestown prior to Monday's matchup in Delmarva. Fransoso was a member of the Power Opening Day roster, appearing in 22 games with a .215 average, one home run and two RBIs. To make room for Fransoso the Pirates placed Harold Ramirez on to the Power Disabled List retroactive to July 3. Ramirez currently holds a franchise record and SAL season-best hit streak at 23 games.
OH SO CLOSE: The West Virginia Power have still yet to walk-off with a victory in the 2014 season. Austin Dean blasted a three-run walk-off home run in the ninth in West Virginia's loss at Greensboro on Sunday. The Power have watched eight walk-offs in 2014.
PROMO UPDATE- JULY 12: The West Virginia Power battle the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Saturday, July 12, at Appalachian Power Park. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will recieve an Appalachian Power Park replica.The Power open the four-game homestand on Thursday, July 10 against Greensboro.
POWER POINTS: West Virginia is 12-19 in one-run games this season. No other club in the league has played as many one-run games as West Virginia has this year... Pittsburgh placed Wyatt Mathisen on the Disabled List on 6/28 with a leg injury. The third baseman is batting .263 over 74 games with three home runs and 24 RBIs. Pittsburgh made a flurry of moves that effected the Power on Thursday. Justin Maffei and Ashley Ponce were both promoted to Bradenton from West Virginia. Andy Otamendi was transferred to the Jamestown Jammers roster while Clario Perez was promoted from the Jamestown roster after two days. Finally, Danny Collins and Francisco Diaz were activated from the Power Disabled List.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh ousted the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2. JEf Lock threw eight strong innings to get the win... Indianapolis blanked Lehigh Valley 4-0... Altoona edged Harrisburg 6-5. Alen Hanson 2-for-5 with an RBI in the win... Bradenton's matchup with Palm Beach was suspended in the fifth (3-1 BRA)... Jamestown dropped a 5-2 final to State College.
