Asheville Tourists News Release
Asheville, NC--Monday night's game at McCormick Field was never in doubt as the Asheville Tourists jumped on the Rome Braves from the start. After Konner Wade breezed through the top of the first, the Tourists rallied for six runs in the bottom of the inning. That was more than enough run support for Wade who lasted seven innings for the fifth time in his last five starts.
David Dahl led off the first inning rally with a double and took third on Michael Benjamin's single. Raimel Tapia then doubled home Dahl. Ryan McMahon grounded into a fielder's choice that was compounded by a throwing error from the Braves Shortstop Johan Camargo. Two runs scored on the play. Jordan Patterson followed with a two-run Home Run to make it 5-0 and two batters later Jose Briceno left the yard to cap the rally.
Asheville added another in the second. Dahl again doubled to lead off the inning; recording his 100th hit of the season. He later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Tapia. In the sixth, Asheville went to work off Braves reliever Tyler Vail. Emerson Jimenez knocked in a pair with a double to left-center and Michael Benjamin also had an RBI double. Tapia picked up his third RBI of the night by scoring Dahl with a groundout.
Rome's lone run came in the top of the eighth. Gerald Chin plated Carlos Franco with a sacrifice fly, but the run was unearned. While the Tourists were doing their damage offensively, Wade was carving up the Braves hitters. The Tourists righty induced 14 groundouts and ran his post All-Star break record to 3-0 with a 0.32 ERA in four starts. Wade has surrendered just one earned run in his last 28.1 innings pitched.
Dahl and Benjamin each finished with three hits while McMahon, Briceno, and Jimenez each added two. Nine of Asheville's 15 hits went for extra-bases.
The Tourists and the Braves are back at it on Tuesday night with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
