Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, Ga.- The Savannah Sand Gnats won their 11th game in a row Monday night, grinding out a 6-1 win behind eight strong innings on the mound from John Michael Gant.

It is the fourth 11-game winning streak for the Gnats (15-4/59-26) in the last 21 years, but none reached 12 games. The Gnats won 11 consecutive games in 1993 (as the Savannah Cardinals) in 2000, and in 2011.

The Gnats took the lead with a three-run fourth for a 3-1 advantage and added three runs in the bottom of the eighth for the final margin.

The GreenJackets (8-11/42-45) scored their only run off Gant in the first inning. Rightfielder Victor Cruzado threw out a runner at the plate to end the inning and keep the score to 1-0. After the first inning, Gant allowed just two hits in his next seven innings of work, and only one runner to second. With the win, he improved to 9-4 with a 2.64 ERA.

DH Matt Oberste and first baseman Dominic Smith accounted for five of the Gnats' nine hits. Oberste was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Smith was 2-for-4 to lift his batting average to .296 in 82 games.

The Gnats will hand the ball to LHP Alex Panteliodis (2-1, 2.88) for a Camp Day Matinee Tuesday at 11 a.m . Gates to Historic Grayson Stadium open at 10 am . Fans can enjoy special two-for-one Miller Lite and Coors Light as a part of Two-For-Tuesday.
