THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia dropped a 5-2 rain-shortened finale to Greensboro on Tuesday evening. The Hoppers scored a run in the top of the first on three walks and a sac fly. West Virginia loaded the bases in the third and took a 2-1 edge on a two out single by Edwin Espinal. Greensboro did not get a base hit until the fifth, but reeled off four straight singles en route to a four run inning to take the lead for good. With one down in the bottom of the ninth, the game went into a 31 minute rain delay and did not resume. Luis Heredia was charged with the loss while Domingo German beat West Virginia for the third time this season.

TEN TIMES OVER: The Power have now lost ten straight games. This winless stretch is the longest in franchise history dating back to the 2005 season. No West Virginia team had lost more than eight games in a row at any point over the last nine-plus seasons. Over half of the team's losses this year have come during one of their three longest losing streaks, total 25 games. West Virginia has had losing streaks of ten, eight and seven games this season.

POLANCO GOES TO PIRATES: The Pirates recalled outfielder Gregory Polanco to the active 25-man roster and he made his Major League debut against Chicago Tuesday night, batting second and playing right. The outfielder, a 2012 South Atlantic League All-Star and Topps league Player-of-the-Year, was the 40th former West Virginia Power player to reach the Majors and third this season, joining Casey Sadler (Pittsburgh) and Rudy Owens (Houston). Polanco hit .325 for the Power in 2012 with 16 home runs and 85 runs batted in over 116 games.

WATERED DOWN: Tuesday's loss was the third game during West Virginia's ten game losing streak that was cut short due to the weather. The Power fell 3-0 last Tuesday in a rain-shortened, five inning no-hitter against Kannapolis and then in six innings at Hickory on Sunday by a 4-2 final. Those are the only three Power games that have been finished early due to inclement weather this season.

EXTENDING THE STREAKS: Harold Ramirez and Edwin Espinal each extended their hitting streaks to six straight with base hits Tuesday. Ramirez has matched his longest streak of the year while Espinal is two back of his run from April 14 to 25.

JUNE SWOON: West Virginia is winless in nine games this month. Power hitters have a .219 average while the staff has a 6.35 ERA since the month began. The club went 9-17 in April with a .254 batting average and an ERA of 3.75. In May, West Virginia went 10-18 with a .260 and a 4.03 earned run average.

THERE GOES GREENSBORO: The Power and Grasshoppers conclude their final series of the first half this evening. West Virginia and Greensboro have met 131 times since 2005 and the Power hold a 69-62 lead in the all-time series. West Virginia returns to Greensboro for a three-game set starting July 4 before the Hoppers return to play in Charleston from July 10-14.
