Asheville Tourists News Release

Lexington, KY-- Due to Tuesday's rainout in Lexington, the Tourists and the Legends squared off for 14 innings of baseball and both teams ended up with a win.Wednesday morning began a lot like Monday evening went for the Asheville Tourists. Offensively, the Tourists did not have much in the tank in game one of the scheduled double header.

The Lexington Legends scored six runs through the first six innings and threatened to shut out the Tourists who have only been held scoreless once this year. Asheville found some rhythm in the top of the seventh and actually made things interesting.

After putting runners at first and second with one out, Jose Briceno singled home Ryan McMahon. Once Alec Mehrten singled to load the bases, Zach Osborne singled in another run.

Max White then walked to force in a run and the game was 6-3. However, Asheville's rally came to a screeching halt when Wilfredo Rodriguez grounded into a double-play. Elier Hernandez and Dex Kjerstad had Home Runs for the home team.

The Tourists used their late momentum in game one to help propel them in game two of the double-header. Michael Benjamin reached base four times on two hits and two walks and Emerson Jimenez recorded three RBI in Asheville's 7-3 win. Matt Carasiti earned the win by tossing 2.1 scoreless innings and the Tourists avoided being swept at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

The Tourists scored four of their seven runs in their final two turns at bat.

Only four games remain in the first half of the season and all four will take place at McCormick Field. Asheville welcomes Rome to town on Thursday night with the first pitch slated for 7:05pm.
