THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia dropped a 2-1 finale against Kannapolis on Wednesday. The Power took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on an Edwin Espinal run-scoring ground out. Buddy Borden pitched four scoreless innings and Felipe Gonzalez followed with three more. In the eighth, however, the Intimidators plated the tying run and go-ahead runs on two hits and three walks, including a free pass with the bases loaded. Gonzalez took the loss while Jordan Guerrero notched the win. The Power managed just five hits in the loss, which capped a three game series sweep for the Intimidators.

REMATCH: West Virginia and Hagerstown open their ten game season-long series tonight at Appalachian Power Park. The Power and Suns last met in the 2013 postseason as Hagerstown eliminated West Virginia in the divisional round before losing the league championship series to Savannah. The Suns lead the all-time series 65-58 dating back to 2005, though the Power have the home advantage at 33 wins over 27 losses.

ART OF THE RBI: Edwin Espinal drove in West Virginia's lone run on Wednesday. The first baseman has a team-best 10 runs batted in this season. Four have come on run-scoring doubles and a pair have been plated on singles. Espinal's other four runs batted in have been brought home on ground outs.

STEALING SAFELY: West Virginia is now 16 for 18 in stolen base attempts this season. Their 89 percent success rate on steals is the best in the South Atlantic League, though it comes on a league-low 17 attempts. Charleston has stolen 33 bases this season to lead the SAL, but done so on 45 attempts (73%). Kannapolis is the only other team in the league with a success rate above 80% (30 for 35 on steal attempts).

CUMPTON RECALLED: The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled 2011 SAL All-Star Brandon Cumpton. The right-hander was 7-4 in 2011 for West Virginia with a 4.30 earned run average, including a stellar month of May when he was 6-0 with a 1.18 ERA. Cumpton took Jared Hughes place on the roster and started the series finale against the Reds today. Cumpton was the 32nd former Power player to reach the Majors.

K-MAN: Shane Carle recorded seven strikeouts on Tuesday, matching the most by a Power pitcher this season and setting a new single game career-high for the right-hander. Carle had previously stuck out six three times during his pro career, including each of his last two starts this season. The Long Beach State product leads West Virginia with 19 strikeouts through 16.2 innings pitched. Through Tyler Glasnow's first four starts last year, he had recorded 16 K's over 15 innings. Glasnow finished with a franchise record 164 strikeouts.

DOUBLE THE DOUBLEHEADERS: West Virginia and Kannapolis will make up the postponed games from April 18 and 19 at CMC-NorthEast Stadium on April 29 and 30. Both clubs are off on April 28 and will play a twinbill on April 29 at 5:05 pm. The team's are scheduled for a school day game on the 30th starting at 10:05 am. That will become a seven inning game with a second game to follow.

PROMO UPDATE- APRIL 26: The first 1,000 fans on Saturday, April 26, will receive a replica of the Pittsburgh Pirates 1979 World Series Championship ring. Omar Moreno and Watt Powell will be inducted onto the Wall of Fame as well with Moreno making a guest appearance.

POWER POINTS: Prior to Monday's game, no opponent had scored more than six runs in any one game against West Virginia and no team had collected more than 11 hits... Edwin Espinal has the team's longest hitting streak, now at six straight... Erich Weiss's 17 game on-base streak is tied for the longest in the league this season.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh fell 5-2 to Cincinnati last night and the clubs finished their four game set this afternoon... Indianapolis was blanked by Toledo 2-0... Altoona scored four in the ninth to walk-off with a 10-9 win over Harrisburg, including an Elias Diaz sac fly to win the game... Bradenton dropped a 3-2 final in 14 innings at Charlotte. Jose Osuna, Jeff Roy and Eric Wood had two hits each.
