
Shorebirds Game Notes vs. Charleston

PREVIEW: The Shorebirds put the tying and winning runs in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth, but they were unable to deliver a walk-off winner. Instead Savannah won the series finale, 3-2, to take the rubber match. Delmarva now plays host to another Southern Division foe, the Charleston RiverDogs for four games.
TODAY'S OPPONENT: Caleb Smith starts for Charleston in the series opener. The left-hander has compiled a 1-1 record with a 1.26 ERA in three starts for the RiverDogs in 2013. Smith is coming off a no-decision in which he shutout Rome for 5 1/3 innings. Smith pitched for Staten Island in 2013, going 1-2 with a 1.89 ERA, and he also made one start for Double-A Trenton Thunder. The New York Yankees drafted Smith in the 14th round last year out of Sam Houston State University.
19TH SEASON: The 2014 season marks the 19th season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 18th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds' first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team.
ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles won a 10-8 slugfest with the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night. The O's hit four home runs on the evening, including a pair of long balls from Nelson Cruz. 2011 Delmarva Shorebird Jonathan Schoop went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. The O's are back to .500 at 10-10, in third place in the American League East.
THE IRON IS HOT: 21 out of the 25 players on the Shorebirds active roster appeared for the Ab- erdeen IronBirds in 2013. The IronBirds put together an impressive season, making the playoffs for the first time in their 12-year franchise history. Aberdeen won the McNamara Division in the New York-Penn League with a 40-32 record. The IronBirds lost in the first round of the NYPL play- offs, losing 2 games to 0 against the Tri-City Valley Cats.

Lorenzo swiped three stolen bases in Wednes- day night's 3-2 loss to Sa- vannah. It was the most steals by a Shorebird in a single game this year. Lorenzo now leads the team in runs scored (12) and stolen bases (9). Cur- rently, Lorenzo is tied for the most steals in the league. Lorenzo racked up 40 steals last season, the fifth-most in franchise history.
WHO'S HOT - DREW DOSCH
From April 16th through April 21st, Dosch strung together five consecutive multi-hit games. This includes a 3-for-7 night last Wednesday when Dosch delivered a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 15th.
WHO ELSE - MIKE YASTRZEMSKI
On Tuesday, Yastrzemski hit his team-high third triple of the season. Yastrzemski also leads the team in slugging percentage (.476), on-base percentage (.361) and total bases (30). Yaz is one of two Shorebirds with a HR.
