Asheville Tourists News Release

Augusta, GA-- A season-high 16 hits was not enough on Thursday night as the Tourists dropped their seventh game in their last nine contests; 6-5 to the Augusta GreenJackets. Asheville fell behind early and mounted a comeback, but fell one run short.

Augusta scored two in the bottom of the first off Tourists starter Antonio Senzatela. Asheville's right-hander did not bring his best stuff to the mound and Augusta made him pay. The Tourists were able to plate a run in the top of the second on a Wilfredo Rodriguez infield single, but the GreenJackets answered with three more in the bottom of the inning.

Senzatela surrendered another run in the third and when Fred Ocasio decided to go to the bullpen, the Tourists trailed 6-1. Senzatela finished with a line of 2.2 innings pitched, seven hits, six runs, two hits batters, and a walk.

Asheville's relievers Carlos Estevez and Troy Neiman took control as the two combined to limit the GreenJackets to just one hit the rest of the game. Offensively, the Tourists began to chip away.

In the top of the fourth, Asheville pounded out five consecutive singles en route to a three run inning. Rodriguez, Alec Mehrten, and Raimel Tapia each had RBI hits in the frame.

The Tourists made it 6-5 when Mehrten singled home Michael Benjamin in the eighth. However, the Tourists left runners at second and third in the inning. Asheville put two more aboard in the ninth, but Rodriguez grounded out to third ending the game.

Benjamin, Mehrten, and David Dahl each had three hits for the Tourists while Tapia and Jordan Patterson both reached base three times. Asheville left at least one runner in scoring position in seven of the nine innings.

The Tourists look to bounce back on Friday night in Augusta with the first pitch slated for 7:00pm.
