Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
ROME, GA - Six Intimidators batters drove in runs as Kannapolis dropped the Rome Braves, 7-4, for the team's fourth straight win on Thursday at State Mutual Stadium. Kannapolis (10-9) has now pulled back over .500 while the Braves dropped their third straight.
Adam Engel started the scoring in the first inning by leading off with a single and stealing second before eventually scoring on a Trey Michalczewski groundout. After the Braves (7-14) leapfrogged the Intimidators with two runs in the bottom of the first, Tyler Williams tied the game, 2-2, with a 2-out home run (2) in the second inning. The Braves got the run back in the home half of the second when Daniel Carroll singled in Carlos Franco, pulling ahead 3-2.
Omar Narvaez kept his hitting streak alive with a game-tying single in the fourth inning, cashing Michalczewski to even the game, 3-3. Narvaez went 1-for-4 on Thursday and has now hit safely in eight straight games since April 10, batting .375 (12-32) in that span.
In the fifth, Tyler Shryock pulled Kannapolis ahead with an RBI-single and later scored on a Cleuluis Rondon sac-fly for a 5-3 lead. Zach Voight added a 2-run double in the eighth.
Reliever Dylan Chavez (2-1) earned the win for Kannapolis, working 3.0 scoreless innings. Matt Abramson relieved Alex Powers in the ninth inning and worked a scoreless frame for the save (1).
Rome starter Andry Ubiera (0-3) took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits in 5.0 innings.
The Intimidators play Game 2 of this 4-game series against the Braves on Friday as Kannapolis sends RHP Jake Sanchez (2-0, 0.00) to the mound for his first start of the season. The Intimidators return home on Tuesday, April 29, to open a 9-games-in-7-days home stand against the Power and Hickory Crawdads.
