Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - After a scoreless first period and a low shot count, the Las Vegas Wranglers came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Idaho Steelheads 3-2 in the team's first shootout win at home.
Both Steelheads goalie Jerry Kuhn and Wranglers goalie Joe Fallon kept the score tied at 0-0 for the entire first period. The two teams had a combined 15 shots, with Las Vegas taking eight and Idaho taking seven.
The Steelheads took an early lead in the second period, scoring two goals in 19 seconds. Idaho forward David Fredriksson notched the first goal on a power play just 3:08 into the period with assists from forward Kael Mouillierat and defenseman Matt Cowie. Nineteen seconds later, forward Derek LeBlanc tallied his first goal of the season with Fredriksson on the assist, putting the Steelheads up 2-0 over the Wranglers. Las Vegas was able to secure their own power play goal late in the second with a goal from Adam Miller and help from center Chris Francis and defenseman Judd Blackwater at 16:06. At the end of the second, the score was 2-1 in favor of Idaho.
It looked like a win for the Steelheads until forward Eric Lampe collected the game-tying goal at 14:19 in the third. With assists from forward Pete MacArthur and Blackwater, the game ended in a 2-2 tie and neither team scored in overtime. Going into a shootout, Francis picked up the lone goal and Fallon stopped all five of Idaho's shooters, giving the Wranglers a 3-2 win in their first shootout appearance at home. Lampe, Blackwater and Fallon each received Three Star nominations of the game.
Las Vegas takes on the Stockton Thunder for the first time this season on Saturday, Nov. 12, and Sunday, Nov. 13 during Military Appreciation Weekend where active and retired military get in for free. Tonight's full box score can be found here .
