Blades Defeat Wheeling 4-1 to Win Third Straight

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades scored four first period goals, to defeat the Wheeling Nailers 4-1 at Germain Arena Wednesday night. The win was the third straight for the Everblades.

Playing their first game at home since October 15, the Everblades exploded for a 4-0 lead after the period. Luc Tardif started the scoring at 12:22 of the first period tipping a shot over the shoulder of Wheeling goaltender Peter Delmas for the goal.

Nearly three minutes later, Leigh Salters broke into the zone on the right wing side, and fired a wrist shot through the five-hole of Delmas, to give his club the 2-0 edge. Florida scored again 1:07 later, as Trevor Bruess registered his first goal of the season to make it a 3-0 score.

Chris Murray, who is coming off a two power play goal game on Saturday, scored his third in the last two game firing a puck from the slot to propel the Everblades to a 4-0 lead at the end of the first period.

After some couple of fights and some chippy play, Wheeling got on the board at 16:50 of the second period. Chris Barton scored his team leading sixth goal of the season, redirecting the puck past Florida goaltender John Muse to put the score at 4-1 after 40 minutes played.

Florida controlled the play in the third, and was able to preserve the 4-1 win despite being outshot 28-16 in the game. Muse earns his third consecutive win, stopping 27 of 28 shots. Delmas take his first loss of the season allowing four goals on 11 shots. Nailers netminder Patrick Killeen stopped 17 shots in two periods of play, in a relief effort.

The two teams will meet again on Friday at Germain Arena beginning at 7:30 p.m, and again on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

Also on Saturday, the McDonald's Tailgate party will begin at 5:00 p.m. with live music by Galia Social on the Comcast Stage, and bounces houses for the kids. Also the world famous Zooperstars will entertain fans during both intermissions.
