Elmira Jackals News Release

Elmira, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals won their first game in sudden-death overtime since Mar. 7, 2010 on Wednesday at First Arena, defeating the Gwinnett Gladiators 3-2 on Evan Barlow's goal 1:38 into the extra session. The Jackals have won two straight and host the Reading Royals at First Arena on Friday at 7:35 p.m.

The Jackals struck first on their second power play of the game, as Artem Demkov snapped in a feed from Joey Ryan on the left side to put Elmira up 1-0 at 12:42.

Brad Miller drove a puck in from the high slot on a Gladiators power play in the second period to tie the game, 1-1, at 12:45.

The Jackals stepped back in front when Mike Ratchuk fired in Maxime Gratchev's feed in the slot to give Elmira a 2-1 lead at 17:28 of the middle frame.

Gwinnett scored on the power play once again late in the second to even the score when Joey Haddad wristed a puck past the stick of Elmira netminder Brian Stewart to make it 2-2 at 19:30.

In overtime, Barlow took a feed from Ratchuk in the left circle, deked Gladiators goaltender Marc Cheverie forehand, backhand, and slid the puck into the net to give Elmira the 3-2 victory. The assist was Ratchuk's third point of the evening.

Stewart made 34 saves and was named the game's third star as he improved to 2-1-0-0 on the season. Cheverie stopped 22 of 25 shots, falling to 2-1-2-1.

Elmira had not won a game in sudden-death OT in 94 consecutive regular-season games since defeating the Johnstown Chiefs over 20 months ago on a Sunday at War Memorial Arena.
