Nailers Game Preview: Wheeling Vs. Florida

November 9, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release

On Wednesday night, the Wheeling Nailers begin a three-game series against the Florida Everblades at Germain Arena in their lone trip of the season to the Sunshine State.

Despite playing in the second fewest games in the league to this point in the season, the Nailers still have the lead in the Atlantic Division, entering play on Wednesday with a 6-1-0-0 record, which is good for 12 points. This will be Wheeling's fourth game of the season against the South Division, after defeating Greenville and South Carolina on the road, as well as Gwinnett at home. Oddly enough, the Nailers might be as unfamiliar with Germain Arena as the Everblades, who haven't had a home game since October 15th against Gwinnett. Florida is 1-0-0-1 on home ice, and 4-6-0-1 overall, which is good for nine points, and a third place standing in their division.

Last weekend, the Nailers split a pair of games, falling 6-5 to Kalamazoo on Friday, before responding with a 5-1 victory at Trenton on Saturday. Nick Plastino led the way for Wheeling with two goals in Friday night's contest, while five different players lit the lamp on Saturday, including Denver Manderson, who scored his first two professional goals during the weekend. Peter Delmas stopped 32 of the 33 shots he faced in 80 minutes of action, appearing in both tilts.

On the other side of the ice, the Everblades took the ice four times last week, starting off with back-to-back losses against Gwinnett and South Carolina, before bouncing back to beat South Carolina and Greenville to end a stretch of nine consecutive games away from home. John Muse picked up both wins in goal, making 49 saves on 51 shots, while defenseman Chris Murray and forward Alex Hutchings had three points each. Florida has played three games against the Atlantic Division this season, falling to Elmira and Trenton, before finishing a three-game road weekend with a win in Reading.

On the ice, there are no former Nailers on the Florida roster, but there is one in the broadcast booth, as Alex Reed will be calling the game tonight for the Everblades, after spending last season as Wheeling's broadcaster.
