
Wranglers Edged Steelheads 3-2 in a Shootout

Boise, ID - The Las Vegas Wranglers (31-7-4, 66 points) beat the Idaho Steelheads (23-14-4, 50 points) 3-2 in a shootout at the Qwest Arena on Saturday night. Forwards Chris Stanley and Sean O'Connor each scored in regulation to lift Las Vegas to victory. Wranglers' goalie Marc Magliarditi stopped 29 of 30 in regulation and three of four in the shootout to record his 19th win of the season. The Wranglers will stay in Boise for a series tie-breaker on Monday night at 6:10 pm (PST).
After a scoreless first period the teams traded power-play goals in the second period. Las Vegas snagged the first goal of the night as Sean O'Connor tipped in a rebound with the extra man for the 1-0 lead at 9:49. Idaho countered with a power-play goal of their own, tying the game at one with 14:30 passed in the second period. The Steelheads enjoyed a 1:49 second two-man advantage and finally capitalized when Marty Flichel blasted a slapshot from the point.
In the third, the teams traded goals again, this time Idaho struck first to claim a 2-1 lead. Idaho defenseman Jeremy Mylymok played the puck off the boards into Las Vegas territory. The puck took an odd bounced off the boards, catching Marc Magliarditi off guard and trickling into the Wranglers net at 9:22. The Wranglers answered back with a power-play goal at 10:15. Derek Edwardson slipped the puck down low in the slot for Stanley who snapped his team-leading 20th goal of the season, tying the game at two.
The teams went into a shootout tied at two. Las Vegas scored on three of four attempts as Dan Tudin, Derek Edwardson and Matt Dzieduszycki each tallied shootout goals. Idaho was stuffed on three of four attempts with David Bararuk scoring the only Idaho shootout goal.
Las Vegas defenseman Tyler Sloan returned from the injured reserve list for his first game since December 17th in Stockton.
Las Vegas concludes their seven-game road trip with stops in Long Beach, and Bakersfield next week. Las Vegas will return to home ice on Tuesday, February 7th in a showdown with Alaska. At 7:05 pm.
