Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Dustin Sproat ["SPROHT"]. In separate transactions, the Royals also announced that defensemen Chris Barr and Eric Werner have been re-assigned by Manchester to the Royals; that defenseman T.J. Kemp has been returned to Royals from the Peoria Rivermen; and that forward John Morlang has been loaned to the Lowell Lock Monsters.
A first year pro from Red Deer, Alberta, Sproat started the season with the Trenton Titans, appearing in a pre-season game but not yet seeing action in an ECHL regular season game. Sproat, who played three seasons at Princeton University, led the ECAC in scoring last year with seventeen goals and eighteen assists in thirty-one games and was selected as Princeton's team MVP. Sproat was also chosen to the second team All-ECAC and All-Ivy league and was honored with his second selection to the ECACHL's All-Academic team. Barr returns to the Royals after his second stint with the Monarchs. In this most recent stay, Barr played in two games and did not record any points. Over the course of the season, Barr has played five games in Manchester (0g - 0a = 0pts, 7pims). Werner played fifteen games while he was in Manchester, picking up 7 assists and 10 penalty minutes in the first stint of his pro career in the AHL. Kemp played three games in Peoria and did not register a point for the Rivermen. Kemp also participated in the 2006 ECHL All-Star Game in Fresno this week, coming in third in the hardest shot event in Tuesday night's skill competition and playing for coach Karl Taylor's American Conference squad in Wednesday night's game. For Morlang, this marks his fourth trip to the AHL this season-and his second call to the Lock Monsters. In mid-November, Morlang played two games for Lowell without registering a point. Morlang has also had stints with the Hershey Bears and Milwaukee Admirals over the course of this season.
The Royals return to action Saturday night in Dayton for the start of a three game road trip: @ Dayton (Saturday, January 28 at 7:00 pm); @ Toledo (Wednesday, February 1 at 7:00 pm); and @ Wheeling (Friday, February 3 at 7:00). The Royals return to the Sovereign Center on Saturday, February 4 (7:00 pm), when they will face the Nailers again. On that night, the first 2500 fans in attendance will receive a Royals' poster courtesy of the Reading Eagle. Royals' game day broadcasts can be heard on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Ephrata and www.royalshockey.com with pre-game beginning 30 minutes before the opening face-off. Streaming video is also available through the Royals' website on a pay per view basis provided by B2 Networks.
