Aces Euchre Lynx 7-0

January 28, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release

A five-goal first period launched the Alaska Aces to a win over the Augusta Lynx at Sullivan Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Joe Talbot scored twice in the period while Louis Mass, Peter Metcalfe, and Justin Maiser added singles to boost the Aces to the 5-0 advantage through 20 minutes of play. The Lynx managed only five shots on net in the opening frame, but had two tremendous opportunities in the early going denied by Matt Underhill. The Aces netminder stopped Jeff Mason on a shorthanded breakaway, then stoned Joe Pereira on a power play chance by diving to his right during a five-on-three Augusta advantage.

Talbot completed his hat trick bid with a power play goal, the lone marker of the middle frame at 7:21 from Gaucher to make it a 6-0 game. Augusta came back with 13 shots in the second period, and put solid pressure on the Aces but again Underhill was impenetrable and kept the Lynx off the scoreboard.

Alaska finished the scoring off with a single goal in the third period at 17:12, as Corbin Schmidt set up Ryan Gale for a wrister from the slot that beat Jason Wolfe five-hole for a 7-0 final.

Underhill would finish the game with 27 saves for his fourth shutout of the year, while Wolfe made 30 saves in the loss for Augusta. Augusta went 0-for-8 on the power play while the Aces finished 2-for-6.

The Lynx will go back at Alaska on Sunday with a 9:05 pm EST start. The Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game Show will kick off one half-hour before game time on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
