Dayton Bombers News Release
Dayton, OH-The Bombers got off to a much better start in their second game of the second half of the season tonight jumping out to an early lead, but great goaltending from Reading Royals goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji and two power play goals, along with a short handed goal helped the Royals past the Bombers 4-2.
Bombers fans were not sure what to expect after the game vs. Johnstown last night and to be honest the players and staff were not sure how the team would come out in the first period either. Early on The Royals put Dayton goalie Sean Broderick to the test releasing 7 shots on goal in the first four minutes of the hockey game.
Broderick stood tall in net and kept the game scoreless which would give the Bombers offense the momentum it needed to help give Broderick a 1-0 lead.
Jay Latulippe (10) would make it count from the slot on the first power play of the night at the 12:55 mark in the first, assists to Noel (6) and Teplitsky (13) and that lead would hold for the majority of the first period. The Royals would answer the Bombers with a power play goal of their own late in the first at the 16:48 mark to tie it at 1-1 at the end of the first period.
The second period was dominated in every way by the Bombers, except for the scoreboard. Despite out shooting the Royals 17-5 alone in the second, Reading would get their second on the power play at the 14:15 mark and then add a short handed goal near the end of the period as well at 18:38 to put the Bombers in a 3-1 hole at the end of two.
To Begin the third it seemed like both teams were not sure what the other wanted to do and within the first ten minutes of the final period both goalies only saw a total of 6 shots on goal. Realizing they were running out of time the Bombers picked up the fore-check and put a number of bodies in front of the crease to try to get one by Fukufuji to cut the lead to one.
That strategy would work to perfection as Latulippe (11) would be the benefactor of a nifty play form Marco Caprara (5) and Brian Gornick (20) from behind the net to make it a one goal game at 3-2 with under nine minutes left in regulation.
Aggressive physical play in the neutral zone would go in favor of the Royals as they would pick up their second power play with a double minor being served by the Bombers after a fight broke out between Matt Herneisen and Larry Courville.
Time spent on the penalty kill would mean less time spent attacking the Reading net and trying to tie the game and then with :30 reaming the Bombers pulled Broderick for an extra attacker to make every attempt possible to tie it up, but the Royals would at an empty netter and win 4-2.
Next up for the Bombers they will travel to Wheeling to take on the Nailers at 5:00pm on Sunday January 29th. Dayton Bombers Hockey. Celebrating 15 years of fun.
