
Wranglers Bash Travs 13-2

Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, Wichita, KS - The Wichita Wranglers (19-15, 54-50) ripped three home runs and 15 base hits in a 13-2 defeat of the Arkansas Travelers (18-16, 52-52). The Travs loss drops them to one game in back of Wichita for first place in the East Division. Wichita was led by Cory Aldridge and Brennan King with three hits apiece. Aldridge was one of three Wranglers with a home run (16), while King scored three runs. Josh Pressley hammered a three-run home run (17) in the sixth inning which was followed by a homer from Mitch Maier (5). Wichita RHP Brian Bass (10-4) won his fifth straight decision with eight innings of work scattering six hits and two runs with one walk and five strikeouts. Travs 1B Kendry Morales provided the Travs only highlight with a solo home run (6). RHP Delvin James (3-4) took the loss by allowing five runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings.
The Travs grabbed a quick lead when Morales ripped a home run to dead center field on the first pitch of the second inning.
The Wranglers however strung together three consecutive hits with two outs in the second inning. With King starting the mini-rally with a base hit to left field. Aldridge singled King to third base and 2B Brett Groves knocked him in with a single to left field to tie the game at 1-1.
Wichita loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth inning on singles by Maier and King while James walked Aldridge to bring up Groves. James hit Groves with his first pitch to force in a run. Then Matt Tupman lined out to left field to chase in King, while Aldridge scored on a double by Shane Costa for a 4-1 Wichita lead.
Pressley started the fifth inning with a double to left field and King knocked him in with his third single for a 5-1 Wichita lead. James left the game after the hit and RHP Aaron Pullin relieved.
Pullin recorded a quick out in the sixth, but then Mel Stocker singled and Pullin walked Costa. After the second out of the inning, Pressley and Maier went back-to-back to put Wichita's lead at 9-1.
Aldridge led off the seventh inning with a home run to right-center to give the Wranglers a 10-1 lead.
Three more runs scored off RHP Mark O'Sullivan in the eighth inning, while the Travs managed to score PH Ivan Reyes who doubled and came home on a pinch-hit sac fly by Brent Del Chiaro.
Time of game was 2:31 and the paid attendance was 1,812.
The Travs and Wranglers are scheduled for a doubleheader on Friday night. In the first game, Arkansas pits LHP Willie Collazo (1-2, 3.22 ERA) against Wichita RHP Ryan Baerlocher (4-2, 2.68 ERA). The nightcap features Arkansas RHP Kasey Olenberger (5-5, 4.09 ERA) pitching against Wichita RHP Wes Wilkerson (0-0, 8.10 ERA). First game should begin at 5:05 p.m.
